***IMPORTANT COVID-19 INFORMATION***
For over 20 years, MKSA’s providers have been working with children and their families. We pride ourselves on our commitment to health and safety, and adherence to State and County guidelines in that regard.
With regard to the coronavirus pandemic, we would like to reassure you that we are fully following NYS and County guidance regarding home care services. Below is the most current information from New York State.
From ACTS in Albany: It is unclear as to what extent new guidelines by the State will impact our employees and our services. I expect that we will see updated guidance for both CPSE as well as the Early Intervention Program sometime in August. In the meantime BEI has indicated that all COVID related regulations for the Early Intervention Program, in effect since the early part of 2020, remain in effect until further notice. The same is true for the Extended School Year (ESY) programs.
Therapists are reminded to call families before the scheduled visit to ask if anyone in the family has:
- fever, cough, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- in the 14 days prior to home visit, traveled outside the United States or recently had contact with a person who is suspected or confirmed to have infection with novel coronavirus (COVID-19)
If the client says yes, the therapist can politely ask them for their availability to re-schedule in 14 days or when they or the household member are feeling better. The client should also be advised to call their healthcare provider for guidance.
For agencies and independent providers:
For the immediate future, the county recommends only therapists with a home office and with no other staff present continue to provide services, provided that both the child, their family members and the therapist have no symptoms, travel history or contact with a COVID-19 positive individual as described above.
Everyone should continue to follow the below General Infection Prevention Strategies:
- Organizations should encourage staff to routinely employ infection prevention strategies to reduce transmission of common respiratory viruses (e.g., influenza or “flu” or “the common cold”).
- Stay home if you are sick.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing (in the absence of a tissue, cough or sneeze into your shirt sleeve or bent arm).
- Keep your hands clean (wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds). Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Get the flu shot (at this time, there is no current vaccination for coronaviruses).
The routine use of these infection prevention strategies cannot be overemphasized (especially washing your hands often with soap and water. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective).

E.I. ABA GROUPS AT OUR PLAINVIEW LOCATION
• Small group activities
• 1:1 discrete trial instruction
• Opportunities for socialization
Includes: Parent Support Group, Family Training
Days & Time:
-ABA Group Monday-Friday: 9:00AM-10:30 AM or 11:00AM-12:30 PM
-Scheduled Family Training: 2x/month
-Support Group: 1x/week 1 hour (during class time)
Location: 125 E. Bethpage Road, Plainview NY 11803 (entrance at MKSA awning)
• On Nassau/Suffolk border—convenient to both counties
• Parent/Guardian must stay on location. Parent mileage reimbursement (PMR) available.
Staffing Ratio: Special Educator and 1:1 aides, maximum 6 children (supervised by BCBA/LBA)
Description of child appropriate for group: Child with Dx of ASD
Goals/purpose of group:
• Individual IFSP and learning readiness goals addressed through principles of ABA
• Socialization goals addressed through principles of ABA
• An individualized program will be developed for each child
• Data collection taken on all goals
• Programs overseen by BCBA/LBA
Authorization Info: (must have co-visits on every Service Authorization)
Basic Group 1:1, 5 days a week, provider location
Family Training 2x/month for 30 minutes, provider location
Support Group 1x/week during class, provider location
There are no classes the following weeks:
• 12/24/21 – 12/31/21
• 4/15/22 – 4/22/22
• 7/4/22 – 7/8/22

The Early Intervention Therapist and Teacher Online Cooperative (EITTOC) offers online classes that can be used for the professional development hours needed for EI. It also has courses specific to evaluators, different diagnosed conditions, and required trainings such as sexual harassment and child abuse. They also offer CEUs from ASHA and AOTA. A four-part video series featuring parents of children with developmental disabilities. Four families discuss their journey (in English, Spanish, Bengali, and Mandarin) from concern to Program enrollment.
Developing Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) that Fit You and Your Priorities
This video discusses the important role a parent has in developing their child’s IFSP. It describes what the IFSP is and how it is created. It also discusses strategies parents can use to make sure their IFSP fits their family, priorities, and outcomes for their child.
Overview of Families’ Rights
A four-part video series covering a family’s rights during different steps in the EIP from referral to transition.

Developing Meaningful Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) through Family Engagement

The website is part of a NYS Department of Health Bureau of Early Intervention sponsored contract with Just Kids Early Childhood Learning Center. Visit the new website.
